There’s so much to say about goldenrod (Solidago ) that it’s hard to know where to begin. This plant is one of my favorites, even though, it’s a sure sign of the end of summer. Many people mistake this plant for their seasonal allergies, but this is not the culprit. The pollen of goldenrod is sticky and heavy so it doesn’t float into the air. Also, insects pollinate this plant not the wind. Ragweed which grows nearby to Goldenrod, she is to blame for the allergic reactions. Sorry, ragweed. Goldenrod calms runny eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. The cure always grows near the cause!
The properties of goldenrod are similar to many other herbs: antifungal, diuretic, diaphoretic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, astringent, antiseptic, and carminative. However, the actions of goldenrod to the kidneys, urinary track, skin, allergies, and cardiovascular system are very impressive.
My son John suffers from seasonal allergies, like myself, and as long as we keep up on our Goldenrod tincture, tea and Elderberry, we are good as gold.
