This is not Grandma's cold cream. This is great, great, great, Grandma's cold cream! I remember watching my Nanny's nightly ritual... After she washed her face , she would apply a thick layer of Pond's Cold Cream on her face before bed. The smell of Pond's still brings back memories of her. She always took good care of her skin, and it showed. When she was 102 years old, she looked in her mid seventies! Diet, lifestyle, and genetics, also helped play a role.
I want to pass down to my children to always take good care of their skin and in doing so, I re-evaluated the products that I use. One part of this evaluation was to improve upon my moisturizer, I didn't use Ponds, but I wasn't satisfied with what I had. There is a plethora of choices out there, and for me the simpler the regiment, the better. I have created a creme free of mineral oils, pore clogging waxes, fragrances, and other chemicals. Let's "Face" it, we are consistently bombarded by pollutants, even more so than 40 years ago. I decided to go deeper into Earth's medicine, into a time when there wasn't so many ingredients in products. I didn't have to go very far to see the answers to my questions, of what to include in my creme. Outside our back door in the spring, grows an abundance of violets, ( Violaceae. ) It really is a sight to see, a meadow of beautiful purple, blue, white, and leafy green that flows like a sea. The earth will show you what you need, you just have to look, and listen! My kids and I gather many violets, and violet leaves in the spring to infuse in our creme and salves.
So why are violets so good for the skin? Violets contain a natural source of salicylic acid, which helps the skin shed dead cells and reduces redness and swelling. Violets contain Vitamin A and C, which both help the skin to regenerate itself and counteract free-radical damage. The violet is a gentle, but powerful earth medicine allie. She is perfect in combating dry sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and fight aging skin like a warrior!
Another element I kept in mind while creating this creme was scent. Even though ponds smelled clean and nice on Nana, I didn't want to add any artificial fragrances or overwhelming essential oils. My daughter claims our creme smells faintly of fresh blueberry muffins! Now, this is just the natural smell of violet, giving her own scent. My husband dislikes any perfumy lotions or cremes. I wanted him to be able to use this creme daily on his hands. His hands can become so dry, they crack, which is very painful. He is a musician and an artist, so he really needs to use his hand continuously. Moon Garden's Violet Creme soothes, and deeply moisturizes without feeling greasy.
We now have our perfect moisturizer for faces and bodies! We love it ..so, now we want to share it with you.
